When Light Finds Stone

The oldest stone deacon lectern in the world — created by the Naumburg Master around 1250, standing at a column base in the nave of Naumburg Cathedral — caught on a September afternoon when the sun aligned with the medieval stained glass windows above and threw coloured light across the stone: gold on the upper column, blue and purple pools on the lower shaft and the floor around the figure's feet. The coloured light is medieval glass from the 13th and 15th centuries catching afternoon sun. The stone figure receiving it has been standing here for 800 years.
