An unposed figure stands silhouetted at the arch exit of a cobblestone tunnel beneath Nuremberg's medieval fortifications — part of one of Europe's best-preserved medieval city wall systems — the wet cobblestones catching the spill of outside light, the 300-year-old brickwork receding in perfect perspective, the arch framing whatever lies beyond. Converted to monochrome because the image is about light and shadow and a human being at a threshold, and colour had nothing to add.

For the wall that wants to ask a question.

This image doesn't resolve. The figure is there, at the arch, and the barrier tape just visible behind them suggests a boundary — but whether they are about to cross it or have just turned back from it, the image doesn't say. That ambiguity is the point. In a study, a home office, or any space where the person working there values images that reward repeated looking, this one gives something different each time. It is never quite the same story twice.

The square format works in spaces the landscape images can't reach — above a desk, beside a doorway, in a hallway. The near-black walls and pure-white arch exit mean it integrates with almost any interior palette.
