Shot just after sunrise under overcast skies, with rain moving across the eastern horizon compressing the atmosphere and scattering the early morning colour back across the scene.

The result: a lavender and soft peach sky, sandstone warmed to amber by diffused atmospheric light, and Rangitoto Island resting quietly on the left horizon — all reflected back through a harbour surface stilled by a long exposure.
